Francesc Català-Roca (Valls, Tarragona, March 19, 1922 - Barcelona, March 5, 1998) was a Spanish photographer. His photography is characterized by the pursuit of an human environment under original points of view.
He was the photographer Pere Català i Pic's son and he introduced him to the world of photography, sharing it with his brother Pere Català Roca. He collaborated with several publications among which there are Destino and La Vanguardia. He made the first solo exhibition in 1953. Català Roca is known for the many books he has illustrated mainly with photographs of artistic theme. Some of the works that he illustrated are Els monestir catalans (1968), El Pirineu (1970) or Història de l'Art Català de 1983.
Català-Roca considered himself as a professional photographer that tried to capture the everyday reality, believing that he was more a documentary than an artist, but his work combines reality with beauty, thanks in part to its technique ability and his natural ability to get in touch with the people he portrayed. One of his most famous series, was the one made in Carrascosa del Campo (Cuenca), in 1954, on the occasion of the celebration of a bullfight in which Luis Miguel Dominguín participated, the woman who later would become his wife, Lucia Bosé, also went to this event.
He was twice awarded with the City of Barcelona Prize and received the National Prize for Plastic Arts by the Ministry of Culture as well as the artistic merit medal. His work is composed of some 200,000 negatives.
