The results of the jury of the sixteenth edition of the Ceramics Awards for Architecture and Interior Design, which was chaired by the architect Iñaki Ábalos, have been announced.
In the category of Architecture, the “Mont-Ras Winery” project by Jorge Vidal and Víctor Rahola has won, in which there is a close relationship between the construction of a winery and the formation of wine, both processes linked to an experience with the earth. The clay pieces make up vaults that allow the entrance of overhead light.

In the category of Interior Design, the first prize went to "Three subway stations of the L9 of Barcelona" by Garcés - de Seta - Bonet Arquitectes. The stations of Mercabarna, Parc Logístic and Europa Fira of line L9 are in this project object of interior and exterior conditioning aspiring to be timeless, with good aging and easy maintenance.

First prize Architecture: "Bodega Mont-Ras" by Jorge Vidal and Víctor Rahola.
The jury highlights the appropriateness of the use of the material to the industrial and at the same time rustic character of the program, which also shows the adaptation of the chosen material to the conformation of different geometries to the space, impregnating the whole of a very defined character.
 
First mention in the category of Architecture to the project "Extension and rehabilitation of the Gon-Gar workshops" of NUA arquitectures.
A work of difficult unitary solution that thanks to the use of ceramic materials allows to generate a plastic whole to the composition very coherent in the context and to give modernity to a singular urban and programmatic situation.

Second Mention in the category of Architecture to the project "Hotel Santacreu on the island of Tabarca" by Diego López Fuster + SUBARQUITECTURA.
The jury highlights the role of ceramics that goes from the exterior to the interior without solution of continuity in points of clear architectural interest, such as the treatment of the open patio on the roof, and the use of ceramics in the interior, in clear chromatic contrast with the exteriors.

First Prize Interior Design.- "Three subway stations of the L9 of Barcelona" by Garcés - de Seta - Bonet Arquitectes.
The jury highlights the contrast posed by the use of clean and comfortable ceramic flooring in contact with the movement of people, and the radicality and nudity of the rest of the surfaces. It puts in value the use of a single material that is capable of solving all the situations posed by a pavement in a public space.
 
The jury decides to award two mentions in the Interior Design category.
Mention to the project "Can Picafort" of Ted'A arquitectes
of which they emphasize the imaginative use of a set of diverse materials that are connected to each other by the use of ceramics both indoors and outdoors.

Second mention to the project "Rehabilitation of housing between party walls" of ARQUITECTURA-G work of which the maximum unification in a single ceramic material of all the horizontal surfaces stands out, with a clear chromatic contrast with the rest of the surfaces of the house that are neutral , and that extends partially to the exterior
 
Final Project.
First prize: "A landscape garden: recovery of the environment of the Zirí Wall in the Albaicín (Granada).
New neighborhood center and tourism office ", by Rafael López-Toribio Moreno of the School of Architecture of Granada.

The jury values ​​the insertion of a sequence of architectures on a difficult edge of the city. Use constructive solutions with sensitivity to build a route with a diversity of scenes and points of view on the landscape. The use of ceramics at a territorial level confers a unity of unity to the project.

The jury has awarded two mentions to the projects: "Neighborhood resources" by Laia Raventós Recasens and "Smithfield Abbey Campus", by Ricardo Fernández González; as well as an accésit to the project "Catalog of aesthetic ruins", by Jorge Sánchez Bajo.


The jury was chaired by the architect Iñaki Ábalos, from the Abalos + Sentkiewicz studio. They also make up the rest of the jury: Ángela García de Paredes (Paredes Pedrosa Architects); Víctor Navarro (Langarita-Navarro); Bak Gordon, Portuguese architect; Moisés Puente (2G director and critic); the designer and interior designer Martín Azúa and Ramón Monfort, from the College of Architects of Castellón.

Jordi Garcés. Born in Barcelona on June 25, 1945, and studied at the Superior Technical School of Architecture in Barcelona (Degree 1970). Worked, during his studies, in the offices of Martorell-Bohigas-Mackay and in the Workshop of Ricardo Bofill. Begins his professional activity in 1970 with Enric Soria, with whom he remains a partner until 1994. Professor of Projects in the Eina School of Barcelona from 1971 to 1973 and in the Superior Technical School of Architecture of Barcelona since 1974. He was a member of the Board of the College of Architects of Barcelona from 1978 to 1980.

Chair Professor of Projects since 1985. PhD in Architecture at the Polytechnic University of Catalunya in 1987. Full Profesor of Projects at the Superior Technical School of Architecture of Barcelona since 1988. Member of the Board of the FAD (Promotion of Decorative Arts) from 1990 to 1992. Consultant of the Mies van der Rohe from 1995. Consultant in the Organization of Presentations and Conferences for the Congress of the UIA 1996. Member of the Board of the “Ateneu Barcelonès” since November 2007.  Guest Professor, on various occasions, at the “Federal Polytechnic School of Lausanne, Switzerland”.

Daria de Seta y Anna Bonet Giné (respectively) co-direct and they are nowadays members of the study.

Jorge Vidal Tomás architect, graduated from ‘Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Barcelona’ (ETSAB) in 2005.  He studied at the Academy of Architecture Mendrisio in 2004. During that time, he worked with Peter Zumthor Atelier and Valerio Olgiati Atelier.  Furthermore, he studied in Greece with Ella Zenghelis thanks to a scholarship awarded to him by the Mies Van der Rohe Foundation.  He is, at present, preparing his Ph.D. at ETSAB.

He is a professor of Studio Projects at ETSAB and director of the series of lectures known as Foros ESARQ at the Universidad Internacional de Cataluña.  He has taught as a guest speaker at many schools of architecture.  In addition to his academic commitments, he lectures extensively all over Spain and also abroad.  He writes regularly about architecture.

Víctor Rahola Aguadé (1945, Barcelona) graduated from Escuela técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Barcelona ETSAB in 1973. He worked for Jose Antonio Coderch before establishing his own practice.

He taugth at the Escuela Técnica Superio de Arquitectura de Barcelona from 1977-2010. He has been visiting Professor at a number of schools of architecture. He has served on many architectural competition juries. In addition to his academic commitment, he lectures extensively both in Spain and abroad and writes regularly on architecture.
