Architecture firm estudio DIIR designed a new store for the custom shoe brand Diplomatic, located in the Moraleja Green shopping centre, near the A1 motorway, north of Madrid.

The concept that organized the design by the estudio DIIR for the new store proposes to promote the ideal of the brand, accentuating the customer experience when buying, (seen from the owners the experience of the sale), paying special attention to the journey of the client discovering the products and its perception of the different ways of exposure.
The store proposed by estudio DIIR, is organized into two spaces that follow each other linearly. The first is a rectangular and neutral space, which is used as a presentation space, where the featured products are presented, through different devices (showcase, an interactive screen and exhibition shelves) that capture the customer's attention, inviting the user to delve into its interior.

From this first space, through a scenic twist, the second space emerges, which becomes the great centre of the project. The space welcomes the client through a space defined by clear geometry, a large central dome, overhead lighting and perimeter display shelves.

The materiality is defined by the use of "campaspero" stone combined with various mortar coatings, generating a set of neutral and warm tones, which soften the roundness of the spatial geometry, emphasizing the importance of the product.

Project description by estudio DIIR

The sales experience becomes the object of study of this new store. To this end, we work on the creation of a route through which the visitor discovers different forms of exposure. The rectangular and monotonous enclosure that is taken as a starting point, is moulded to pursue a singular space where geometries acquire substantial importance.

In this way, two spaces that follow one another linearly are distinguished. The first is used as a letter of introduction and is responsible for displaying the featured product on its various devices. The showcase, the interactive screen, and the display shelves act as a lure. The access plane is broken and invites the user to go inside.

Next, the circular space stands as the great centre of the project. After crossing a large crowning lintel, the ceiling is decompressed and a space where surprise is emphasized is accessed. By creating a huge dome, an atmosphere is created in which the aforementioned geometric rotundity enters the scene. This is illuminated from above and bathes the space in light. Accompanying this gesture, a series of display shelves surround the space and embrace the user concentrically.

Neutral tones define the palette of materials. "Campaspero" stone is combined with various mortar coatings. In this way, a sincere dialogue is established between content and container. Geometric expressiveness is counterbalanced by calm tones, thus emphasizing the importance of the product.

estudio DIIR is an architecture firm based in Madrid founded in 2018 by David Meana, Ignacio Navarro, Iñigo Palazón and Ricardo Fernández, all of them architects from the Madrid School of Architecture (ETSAM), complemented their training with international experiences in the United States, Sweden, France, China or India. This opportunity has given them an open perspective that they now apply in each of their innovative works.

Their projects, marked by a strong strategic and conceptual positioning, have received national and international recognition. Facing projects of multiple scales has allowed them to develop a practice that explores infinite ways to achieve uniqueness through sensitivity and rigor. The various public projects won at the beginning of their journey - some of them currently under construction - are combined with private commissions of all kinds. The achievement of this variety of works has allowed the studio to be awarded by the COAM as an emerging studio in several consecutive years.

Their work has received national and international recognition. In 2018, he was awarded first prize for the construction of a new cultural centre in Los Molinos (Madrid). At the beginning of 2019, he won first prize for the landscaping of Villamayor de Gállego (Zaragoza). And in 2020, he won first prize for the construction of the social-health centre in Plasencia (Cáceres). In addition, he was recently selected among five international finalists to carry out the Museum of Archaeology and Prehistory in Santander.

The strategic and conceptual positioning developed in the various design competitions in which he has been awarded is transferred to domestic spaces. From offices and shops to renovations and homes, estudio DIIR explores various ways to achieve uniqueness through innovation and rigour.

DIIR's philosophy is a dialogue between beauty and life experience. They conceive and transform spaces as places in constant interaction with people's life experience, influencing their daily lives and the quality of their existence. DIIR is a dialogue between rigor and sensitivity. The perseverance and precision with which we approach each project coexists with the delicacy to achieve solutions that are guided by the search for uniqueness. DIIR is a dialogue between timelessness and resonance. Their work moves away from trends and fashions with the aim of achieving spaces that endure over time and that, in turn, have the capacity to generate an impact on those who interact with them.
