Thought history, the RIBA has honoured men and women who have made a major contribution in architecture. In the 2018 edition, the International Fellows come from 11 different countries. Their work represents the spirit of their homelands as well as it transcends to become an international reference and influence. At this celebration the RIBA Honorary Fellowships also reward the various contributions people have made in architecture as they have, in different ways, helped to improve the design quality and influence the delivery of the environment in a sustainable way.
2018 International Fellows.-
Farrokh Derakhshani - AGA KHAN Award for Architecture, Switzerland/Iran.- Derakhshani is the Director of Aga Khan Award for Architecture. He has been involved with the Award and the Aga Khan Development Network since 1982. He is specialized in the Muslim contemporary society architecture. His work includes the design and construction of large-scale public buildings and infrastructure projects in Iran as well as in Paris and Geneva.

Jeanne Gang - Studio Gang, USA.- Studio Gang founder and MacArthur Fellow Jeanne Gang, is recognized for a research design process that studies the relationships between environments, communities and individuals. They have designed award-winning projects with an analytical and creative approach as well as drawing insight from ecological systems.

Antonio Gonzalez-Capitel - Antonio Capitel, Spain.- Capitel, a major figure in Spanish architecture, is recognized for his teaching contributions to architectural history, as well as theory and critique. He is also known for his high-quality urban and architectural designs.

Andreas Heller – Studio Andreas Heller Architects & Designers, Germany.- Andreas Heller, with background in theatre and film, is an Hamburg based architect who founded his studio in 1989, and has established an international reputation for design in the arts and culture, winning the 2016 iF Gold Prize for the European Hansemuseum in Lubeck.

Sebastian Irarrazaval – Sebastian Irarrazaval Arquitectos, Chile.-Irarrazaval, Santiago-based architect received a British Council scholarship in 1990 to study urbanism at the AA in London. Since 1994 he has taught in Chile and USA at varios Institutions such as Universidad Central de Caracus or Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His work has been showed at the Venice Biennale, Harvard University and Barcelona.

John Lin – Rural Urban Framework, Taiwan/China.- Rural Urban Framework, Taiwan/China: John Lin, Hong Kong-based architect was the 2010 recipient of the Outstanding Teaching Award from the Chinese University. He founded a non-profit research and design collaborative, with Joshua Bolchover in 2005. They have received numerous Awards as last year the RIBA’s Emerging Architect Award or the 2012 WA Chinese Architecture Award.

Willem Jan Neutelings and Michiel Riedijk - Neutelings Riedijk Architects, Netherlands.- Neutelings Riedjk Architects is a firm based in Rotterdam that since their partnership in 1992, has established a reputation for public building. Riedijk has been Professor of Architecture at the Technical University of Delft since 2007 and Neutelings became a Guest Professor at Harvard in 1999. Known for the sculpture character given to their work, their most celebrated buildings includes the Transport College in Rotterdam (2005) and the Musem aan de Stroom (2010) in Antwerp.

Shane O'Toole - Architectural Critic, Ireland.- Shane O’Toole is an architect and writer from Dublin. In 1983 he co-edited his two first books, monograph on the Irish-American architect Kevin Roche and the monograph on Aldo Rosi, as President of the Architectural Association of Ireland. He co-founded in 1991, the year Dublin was announced European City of Culture, an urban design collective formed of eight small studios, called Group 91 Architects. In the late 1990s, he abandoned architectural practice for criticism.

José Maria Sanchez Garcia - José Maria Sanchez Garcia, Spain.- José María Sánchez García graduated in 2002 at the Polytechnic University of Madrid where he is now an associate professor in architecture. He established in 2006 his own studio in Madrid, where he has developed international competitions. Among his numerous awards, are the first Prize of the BSI Swiss Architectural Award 2014 and was shortlisted for the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture, Mies van der Rohe Award 2013.

The RIBA Fellowships will be presented at a special event at RIBA London headquarters in early 2018.
