Joy Elizabeth Akther Crookes singer, known as Joy Crookes, presented her new song "19th Floor", the second single from her album "Skin", on 3 February.

It takes a visual journey through the suburbs of London, where, as the singer tells the story of her grandmother, she immigrated, in the same brutalist style tower that we see in the video.
Joy Crookes, in this very personal work in which she makes a reference to her origins, and locations that we can see throughout the music video, in which the images shown are in the neighbourhood of Walworth.

The building that we can see in the video clip, in brutalist style, is the Trellick Tower, in Kensal Town, with a similar typology and by the same architect, as another that we can see in the eastern part of the city, the Balfron Tower, a skyscraper iconic project designed by Erno Goldfinger, located in Poplar in East London, England.

I loved working with Ebenezer on this video. We wanted to create visuals that were reflective of the complexity and beauty of the community, especially the immigrant community within London. The song is a recognition of all the obstacles immigrants have to overcome to build a life somewhere like the UK, an acknowledgement of the journey that my Grandmother for example had to face to get to the 19th floor of a South London tower block and the heights that’s she has managed to reach.

Headed back to where I started
Past the fireflies of Rizla burning bright
Lost the tower where my heart is
Cinema skylines that I don't recognise
Strip the life out of these streets
It's a daylight robbery
You'll never take the London out of me

I was raised by the river, nineteenth floor
We never got this high before
We were lost so long, look how far we've come
Down by the river, I remember where I belong
Ooh, I remember where I belong

Nothing same but nothing different
Hear the people cry concrete lullabies
I never thought I'd say I miss it
See it speaking when I walk
Don't test the waters

I was raised by the river, nineteenth floor
We never got this high before
We were lost so long, look how far we've come
Down by the river, I remember where I belong

Bopping down Walworth Road, bubblegum blow
Sliders and Sunday clothes
Doing like my Nani, 70s steez
Cardamom stain my teeth
I see the things you've seen
But you don't speak, you leave the traces
Like I picked up a parcel handed down through generations

Raised by the river, nineteenth floor
We never got this high before
We were lost so long, look how far we've come
Down by the river, I remember where I belong
Ooh, I remember where I belong
Ooh, I remember where I belong
