Mennello Museum of Art announced Brooks + Scarpa & KMF Architects as the design team for the 3,717 square meter (40,000 square feet) museum expansion. In a special presentation, preliminary plans and models were unveiled by Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer and museum director Shannon Fitzgerald at the museum’s White Canvas Party on Friday night, October 4.
The design to expand Orlando's Mennello Museum of American Art will be result of collaborating between Brooks + Scarpa with locally based KMF Architects, adding 3,717 square meter to transform the current 1,115 square meter (12,000 square-foot) building into a more inclusive, welcoming space. Acording the statement of commisioners the project will be a new sustainable icon for the City of Orlando and Orange County, creating a place that merges art, architecture, and people, telling the story of Orlando’s rich and diverse communities.

The $20 million expansion will allow the museum to add more public programs, amenities, and multi-functional event spaces to better serve their growing number of visitors.

Lawrence Scarpa describes their vision as “futuristic and timeless. The design mirrors the objective of the artwork inside: It tells a story and furthers the Museum’s mission to be a place of education, culture, and inspiration. [...] The building is organized as a series of highly engaging spaces where the Museum’s mission of using art to connect people to the world around them can unfold.”
