Description of the project by ifdesign
The narration of an ascent.
If a route is in the first place a link between two places, sometimes it loses the consideration that it is a place, or that the transition is sometimes a more important event than the situations it goes through. The predominant character of large climbs in cycling is slope. It is not only a topography: it is what is in the imagination of the population, the qualification that receives in a particular field, the sport, which recognizes according to its difficulties a phenomenal cyclist in the collective memory, generating a kind of Myth of impossibility. Great climbs are often a type of route capable of generating an intense relationship between man and the landscape. Guy Debord would call it a psycho-geography and a subjective response, an attitude or simply a well-established use of different users with respect to the individual stages of the route.
The measuring elements.-
In a place linked so much to the idea of the slope it seemed appropriate that a measuring element should try to translate it to improve the character of the place. Graphic elements represented on the ground are placed each meter ascended, in such a way that you can read the increase and decrease of the slope. These elements constitute the intervention Trait d'Union as they are present in different densities of the whole route. It is an opportunity to tell the landscape that we find. Made through special templates, it is reported through legends and symbols of what the visitor is on the road. Being flanked by a numerical value that shows the height difference.
The scenic stop areas. "The interception of the landscape".-
Where the vegetation disappears, in a few meters and suddenly, changes occur in the landscape: turning the fork opens a spectacular view of the mountains. The perception, the mood and the use change radically.
Downstream of the straight that precedes the last curve, the predominant vegetation is shrub, this point is the best place to enjoy the view of the mountains, which on the clear days becomes spectacular. Here the horizontal chart indicates the exact point in which to enjoy the best view, through concentric circles, as a radar reveal the names of the most important peaks (Grigna, Cornizzolo, etc.) in the range of direction and location.
The architecture study Ifdesign has made this intervention on the ramps of "Muro Di Sormano". An intervention in which the route is considered as the first link between two places. An interesting proposal, this week, the Vuelta Ciclista to Spain comes to its end.
ifdesign's proposal seeks to avoid losing the consideration that the path itself is a place, or that the transition is sometimes an even more important event than the situations it is experiencing, to achieve this goal, the architects have supported on the beautiful landscapes of the region of Como, Italy.
