The International Artificial Light Photography Contest (ICAL) celebrated in The Mies van der Rohe Pavilion, and organized by the Light Studies Workshop of the Barcelona School of Architecture (ETSAB) of the UPC and the help of specialized magazine iCandela, has recognized again the emotional capacity and the sense of the aesthetics of students and professionals in the field of Architecture, Engineering, Design and Aesthetic Art in the field of designs with artificial light, from an analytical and critical view of reality.
In its fourth edition, the ICAL has awarded two categories: one for students and another for professionals. The first one has been composed of different modalities (such as Interior Space Lighting, Architectural Lighting and Landscape and Monumental Lighting). The second category in which professionals compete, of free theme.
It was the Mies van der Rohe Pavilion in Barcelona that sheltered the delivery, whose space also hosted an ephemeral lighting installation created by TLAA, a group of collaborators coordinated by Adrià Muros Alcojor, director of the Light Studies Workshop (ETSAB-UPC). The ceremony was presented by Rosario González, administration technician of the Department of Technology of Architecture at the ETSAB, accompanied by Miquel Àngel Julià, architect, director of strategy and design at Nuklee.
In the initial parliaments, Adrià Muros, Dr. Arquitecto and director of the TEL, explained that ICAL "has established itself as a platform that promotes through photography and other events that are organized in parallel, creativity and sensitivity around artificial light".
As in previous editions, a renowned personality from the world of architecture made a presentation: Carlos Ferrater was in charge on this occasion. His paper addressed concepts based on construction in a vacuum, explained from his own experience. Ferrater affirmed the importance of light in construction "without light, spaces would not exist".
The finalist and awarded photographs will be part of an itinerant exhibition by various national and international universities, and in the next edition of the ePower & Building fair, scheduled for November in Madrid within the Matelec Lighting Pavilion, which is home to the lighting industry.
