Description of the project by AL_A
ACO drainage channels in the MAAT. The cover of the MAAT museum in Lisbon is not only a singular structure that gives shape to the new cultural building, but also an accessible square that allows to enjoy the views of the city and the Tagus River. Hidding in the pavement, the Brickslot drainage canals of ACO are invisible, responsible for collecting and channeling rainwater.
The structure of the museum is integrated with the landscape, and visitors can walk above and below the building. If inside, the museum hosts dynamic and interconnected exhibition spaces that allow you to visit the three disciplines that harbour the cultural equipment (art, architecture and technology), and allows access to rooms for debate, critical thinking and international meetings. The deck becomes an outdoor plaza. From this viewpoint, you can enjoy unique views of the cityscape. On this large square, the Brickslot drainage channels of ACO, almost imperceptible, have been arranged to capture and channel rainwater. Brickslot® is composed of a polymer concrete channel and a slotted grille that, once installed, is hidden in the pavement. Only the groove of the grid of only 10 mm of width is visible.
The ACO Group, founded in Rendsburg (Germany) in 1946, is the world leader in drainage systems for rainwater, industrial and domestic use. It is present in 28 countries around the world. The company offers a wide range of drainage channels, sinks, log covers, hydrocarbon and grease separators, stainless steel piping and pumping stations, among others. ACO Productos Polímeros S.A., located in Girona, is the subsidiary in Spain and has its own production line.
