Fenwick Iribarren Architects will make this project one of the most innovative in the football stadium design sector, since another of the goals sought is to be able to use these spaces as leisure areas 365 days a year. Belgrade's citizens, walkers, and tourists will be able to enjoy a natural environment thanks to its landscaped façade. The surroundings of the stadium will also have cafeterias, kiosks, restaurants, and leisure areas distributed throughout the perimeter in such a way that the concept of a "green" stadium is generated, with unique and sustainable walkable areas.
The total area of the stadium and the 4,500 parking spaces that it will have is approximately 32 hectares, which gives an idea of the magnitude of the project and the relevance that the National Stadium of Serbia will have both for the city and for its habitants.

Efforts in sustainability and innovative refrigeration system
Thanks to the experience of the studio team in sustainable projects, the main objective is to offer a totally efficient design from an energy point of view, intelligent in its operation, and respectful of the environment. In parallel, work will be done to keep the stadium running efficiently not only during major tournaments but also in the future, with the holding of all kinds of events, which will provide a real estate legacy for the city of Belgrade, balancing creativity and innovation with practical sense and commercial sensitivity.
Another notable aspect of the stadium has to do with the cooling and heating systems. Based on the technology of 4-pipe chillers, which simultaneously provide heating and cooling, the system allows the residual heat created in the cooling process to be used to generate hot water for the heating circuit, the temperature of which will reach 45–50º C. The system will cover all the heating and cooling needs of the building, including the preheating of domestic hot water and cold water. In turn, it will allow the cooling of the ICT rooms of the building as a base load to promote the simultaneous cooling and heating of the building during the winter period.

It should be noted that the 4-pipe chillers rely on aerothermal heat pumps, arranged in parallel and all reversible, to provide heating or cooling depending on the needs of the system. Each of the heat pumps will be individually interconnected with the heating and cold water circuits through two-port control valves so that each of them can feed the heating or cooling circuits. Likewise, these circuits will have large thermal storage tanks to support the cooling and heating systems as inertia tanks and reduce the frequency of start-up of the chillers and aerothermal heat pumps. These will maintain optimum storage conditions in the warehouses during periods of low heating or cooling demand.
World reference in stadiums
Fenwick Iribarren Architects is one of the world's leading studios in sports and stadium architecture. In addition to the 974 Stadium, it has also designed two other stadiums for this world competition: the Al Thumama Stadium and the Education City, which have stood out for their innovative air conditioning systems, energy efficiency, and unique cooling systems for the comfort of the viewer.

On the other hand, the extensive experience of the studio in the field of football stadium design has been reflected in the international success achieved by the new RCD Espanyol stadium, winner of the 2010 Stadium Business Award for the best stadium of the year and the Best Stadium of the Spanish First Division 2013, in addition to being used as a center for the UEFA KISS conferences. Currently, FIA is working on the project for the Nou Mestalla stadium for Valencia C.F., as well as other sports competitions, both national and international.
