Zaragoza-based architecture studio Tangram was commissioned to design a set of residential modules for Ariño Spa, in a municipality of the same name located halfway between Teruel and Zaragoza, Spain.

The proposal is framed within an ambitious master plan to organize the growth of the hotel-spa, this project represents the starting point in its development. The hotel expansion is by a new concept of isolated rooms, in direct relationship with nature through low-density elements, which act as a transition between the large built volume and the natural environment in which it is located.
Tangram designed 4 standard modules, one double and one adapted, scattered on the site and carefully positioned. The modules are characterized by the opening of large windows and terraces that facilitate the relationship with the landscape of the mountains, its native fauna and the recent reforestation of pine trees.

Access to the modules occurs directly, avoiding the vestibule, to a simple open program that incorporates the "clean" parts of the bathroom into the main space.

The modules are built using a prefabricated wooden structure. Externally, a neutral skin has been chosen, reminiscent of the large rocks on the slope, based on fibre cement panels.

Project description by Tangram

Framed within an ambitious master plan that will order the future growth of the hotel-spa, this project represents the starting point in its execution.

There are two objectives with which this phase begins, firstly to expand the offer of the spa through a new concept of isolated rooms in direct relation with nature, and secondly to take a first step in the integration of the hotel-spa in the territory in which it is framed, colonizing its limits through low-density elements, which act as a transition between the large built volume and the natural environment in which it is located.

The intervention consists of 4 standard modules, one double and one adapted, as well as a subtle path that serves them. The latter, perpendicular to the main volume, runs initially parallel to the GR and then branches out, loses scale and is deconstructed as we approach each room.

The modules are considered isolated elements, far from the main building and scattered throughout the place, although obeying careful positioning and circulation, both guarantors of the privacy of the users. This allows the opening of large windows and terraces that maximize the relationship with a landscape dominated by the mountains, the presence of native fauna and recent pine trees that extend from the mountain and are intermingled with the various species that have developed over the years. the shadow of the hotel Access to the modules occurs from the front, avoiding the vestibule and thus generating a simple open distribution that incorporates the 'clean' parts of the bathroom into the main space.

The path is executed using brushed concrete both for its 'earthy' appearance and for the need for accessibility. The small paths that give an individual access to the modules are defined by loose stone slabs that allow vegetation to grow between them, blending in with the place.

The modules are executed by means of a prefabricated wooden structure that optimizes the construction and that seems to float thanks to four recessed 'feet' of H.A. that isolate it from the ground. Externally, a neutral skin has been chosen, reminiscent of the large rocks on the slope, based on fibre cement panels that are reflected in the interior as a finish in the wet areas and furniture, leaving the pine wood flooring as a finish. of the main space and responsible for generating a pleasant atmosphere inside.
