Architecture firm Mário Alves Arquiteto designed the Puro Homes building, located in the new urban area of Aveiro, a city on the west coast of Portugal. The collective housing building is located between two lots and marks the highlight of a new design in this area.

The construction is designed to integrate with the characteristics of the surrounding urban fabric. The facade is made up of mobile slats that reflect the movement of the city center. These, in addition to giving privacy to the interior of the houses, create a rhythmic effect of shadows that convey an idea of constant transformation.
The objective of the proposal of the Mário Alves Arquiteto studio is to preserve the refuge and privacy of the private space. The configuration of the house implies placing the social space in the foreground and, in the private spaces, protecting its occupants from the outside.

The materiality plays with the exposed concrete that emphasizes the irreverent personality of the building. On the other hand, glass, in addition to the transparency that it aims to create in the spaces in their relationship with the outside, gives the design lightness to the solid horizontal concrete elements.

Description of project by Mário Alves Arquiteto

The project is based on responding to a specific program of collective housing. Located in a subdivision in the new area of the city of Aveiro, the land is located between two lots, of which are not yet built. Therefore, the idea of the project is based on marking the highlight of a new design in this new area.

The project aims to make the most of the characteristics of the place, such as the views and
solar exposition. The proposed volume is composed of a slat design in order to extend the interior space to the exterior and at the same time personify the horizon line present in the place in the project design. Its raw materiality in concrete aims to emphasize its irreverent personality. The glass, in addition to the transparency that it aims to create in the spaces in its relationship with the outside, aims to provide the design with lightness to the solid horizontal concrete elements.

The existing movement in the center of the city is visible in the slats present on the façade. These, in addition to giving privacy to the interior of the houses when desired, create a rhythmic effect of shadows that transcribe the building an idea of movement and constant transformation.

Access to the building is developed from two main entrances. The configuration of the interior space of the house involves foregrounding the social space and preserving the shelter and privacy of the private space.
