The jury of the 2021 National Architecture Prize, promoted by the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda, has just awarded this distinction to the architect Carme Pinós. It is the highest award given in Spain in the field of architecture.

The award was recently awarded to Alberto Campo Baeza, awarded in 2020, Álvaro Siza Vieira, awarded in 2019, Manuel Gallego Jorreto in 2018, José Antonio Martínez Lapeña and Elías Torres Tur in 2016, Rafel Moneo in 2015 or Juan Navarro Baldeweg in 2014.

The award has more than ninety years of history, its purpose is to give a testimony of admiration to a natural person or entity with legal personality that, with their work or with the whole of their work, contributes or has contributed in an extraordinary way to the enrichment of the social, technological and sustainable aspects of Spanish Architecture or Urbanism inside and outside the Spanish borders.
When proposing the award to Carme Pinós, the jury especially highlights the solidity of her career, being both prolific and excellent, always impregnated by a great creative power. A creative process that runs through the entire architectural work, culminating in an outstanding execution of the project.

The jury emphasizes the social responsibility and sustainability pursued in its projects and also makes mention of its transversality as a professional, promoting the dialogue of architecture with other disciplines and demonstrating a great informative capacity both within and outside our borders.

The candidacy of the architect, at the proposal of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando, the Arquia Foundation, the E.T.S.A. of Valencia and the Higher Council of Colleges of Architects of Spain (CSCAE), was chosen by the jury convened on November 30. Subsequently, it was made known to the Minister of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda, who has personally given the news to the winner and, after that, will award the award by Ministerial Order.

The National Architecture Prize, endowed with 60,000 euros, is awarded on the proposal of a jury made up of outstanding professionals, under the honorary presidency of the head of the Department, Raquel Sánchez.

The jury has been made up on this occasion by Álvaro Siza Vieira, winner of the 2019 National Architecture Prize; Alberto Campo Baeza, winner of the 2020 National Architecture Prize; Luis Fernández-Galiano, at the proposal of the San Fernando Royal Academy of Fine Arts; Mar Loren Méndez, at the proposal of the Conference of Rectors of Spanish Universities; Sol Madridejos Fernández, at the proposal of the Higher Council of Colleges of Architects of Spain; Eva Armas Gil, at the proposal of the Federation of Associations of Journalists of Spain; and María Langarita Sánchez, at the proposal of the General Directorate of Urban Agenda and Architecture.
