The intervention developed by Agencia HACHE, Transparent Tunnel at Casa Batlló in Barcelona, has been a finalist in the FAD 2020 Awards in the Ephemeral Intervention category.

Casa Batlló is a building designed by the architect Antoni Gaudí, the highest representative of Catalan modernism. The project had to respond to the simultaneity of activities, that is, create an intervention in which visitors could access and show the rehabilitation works that were being carried out.
The action of Agencia HACHE is about the creation of a transparent tunnel by repeating a single element that adapts to the different routes during the restoration work of Casa Batlló.

The materials used for this element are, methacrylate panels, molded with an organic shape like the house, which with their transparency made it possible to highlight and observe the "skin of the house". The other two materials used were carved wooden supports and a combination of LEDs.

Description of project by Agencia HACHE

Casa Batlló, in the process of restoration, saw the need to commission Agencia HACHE an ephemeral intervention that would allow the daily entry of visitors without having to close the house -World Heritage of Humanity- and, at the same time, do not interfere with restoration tasks.

Due to the complexity of the petition, we proceeded to build a "transparent tunnel", which instead of separating or wanting to hide the work of the restorers for 4 months, enhanced its value by showing directly the treasure that was hidden behind the "skin of the house". 10 mm methacrylate panels were used -molded according to the organic shapes of the house- supported by carved wooden feet and were illuminated with LEDs to highlight transparency.
