SPACECOUNCIL, LAAS

SPACECOUNCIL is an international architecture and urban design office based in Singapore and Zurich, founded by Dr. Sonja Berthold and Dietmar Leyk. The office explores space, experience, and human behavior to create compelling architectural and urban solutions.

Dietmar Leyk (German) is a registered architect. He collaborates with international premium companies and agencies, teaches and researches at renown universities like ETH Zurich, the Berlage Institute Rotterdam, the Singapore-ETH Centre: The Future Cities Laboratory and the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) of Singapore. Dietmar has more than 25 years of experience in the fields of architecture and urban design strategies, urbanization, high-density mixed-use cities, knowledge space architecture, campus architecture and large-scale urban projects. He has been responsible for numerous large-scale interdisciplinary projects in research, development and design.

Dr. Sonja Berthold (German-Thai) is a registered architect and received her masters degrees in Architecture and Urban Design from ETH Zurich and the Architectural Association in London. She received a PhD from the Singapore-ETH’s Future Cities Laboratory and the National University of Singapore. With close to 20 years of architectural design, building and research experience for leading organizations, her expertise spans architectural design, sustainable urban design, design research, education, client relationship management, and comprehensive planning.

Dietmar Leyk and Dr. Sonja Berthold also direct LAAS - Life as a Service, a collaborative network and research platform to invent tomorrow’s cities, villages and landscapes by holistically connecting digital services to human values.
