Nauman

Bruce Nauman is an American artist who began to have influence and relevance during the 1960s when he entered the University of Wisconsin. There he studied mathematics, physics and art. His artistic work includes sculptures, videos, graphic works and performances. His priority is the idea and the creative process that lead to the result and not the result itself. For this, he uses various materials and sometimes his own body.

In 1966, Nicholas Wilder Gallery, Los Angeles, held the first solo exhibition of Nauman's fiberglass sculptures. Two years later it would be the Leo Castelli Gallery in New York, and the Galerie Konrad Fischer in Düsseldorf, which initiated a long series of solo exhibitions featuring the artist. As early as 1972, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and Marcia Tucker at the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, organized the first solo exhibition of Bruce Nauman's work, thanks to which the artist was able to travel throughout Europe and the United States. Nauman has subsequently had several retrospectives organized by the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis and the Kunstmuseum Wolfsburg. For the Venice Biennale in 2009, the Philadelphia Museum of Art exhibited 33 works by Nauman. The American artist has also had major solo exhibitions at Dia Art Foundation (2002), Deutsche Guggenheim, Tate Modern (2004), Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art (2005), Tate Liverpool (2006), Milwaukee Art Museum (2006), Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive (2007) and Hamburger Bahnhof (2010).
