Julia Morgan. The American architect Julia Morgan (1872-1957) was born in San Francisco, she was the first woman to study at the School of Fine Arts in Paris and the first architect from California. She began her studies at the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Berkeley, and she got a scholarship to the School of Fine Arts in Paris. When she returned to the United States, she began her architectural career, carrying out projects for John Galen Howard, most notably the Hearst Greek Theater at the University of Berkeley.
In 1904, she founded her own studio in San Francisco and carried out numerous projects influenced by the Beaux-Art style, with very diverse programs such as Merrill Hall, the Heritage Reiterement Community residence, the Derge House, Hearst's Roman Pool Castle, and public buildings.
