Martínez Rodríguez

José Manuel Martínez Rodríguez (Cangas del Narcea, 1961). Doctor of Architecture and Professor at the Higher Technical School of Architecture of Valladolid (ETSAV).

In 1987 he established his own studio in Valladolid, where he develops architectural projects and competitions. His office has been awarded with various prizes in ideas competitions such as the First Prize for the CYL Pavilion at Expo 92 in Seville, Housing Building for the Provincial Council of Burgos (1993), Business Incubator for the Chamber of Commerce of Valladolid (2002), Municipal Civic Centre of Boecillo (2005), as well as second, third prizes, honorable mentions and finalist in multiple competitions, such as Housing in Ventaberri (1993), Housing in Almuña (1994), CSCAE Singular Residence (2003, 2004 and 2005), Cultural Centre of La Cistérniga (2002), FUNCOAL Headquarters (2004) etc.

He has received several awards for his built work, such as the Castilla y León Architecture Awards (1991, 1996, 2001, 2003, 2005, 2007, 2009, 2011, 2018, 2020), Finalist in the 5th Spanish Architecture Biennial (1997-1998), Selected for the BEAU XV, Finalist in the 20th Edition of the Asturias Architecture Award (2010), and the Enor Architecture Award (2006,2011). His work has been published in magazines such as Arquitectura Viva, Tectónica, Divisare, Plataforma Arquitectura, Bau, Diseño Interior, Conarquitectura, Arquitectos, Formas de Arquitectura y Arte, etc., or in books such as Expo 92 Sevilla, Architecture and Design (Electa), Spanish Architecture of the 20th Century (Ángel Urrutia), Ways of Living (CSCAE and Ministry of Housing), Guide to Architecture of Valladolid, Authors of Architecture in Asturias (Joaquín Aranda) etc. His works have been exhibited in places such as the Casa das Artes in Oporto, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Valladolid, the Palace of Congresses and Exhibitions in Valencia, the Universidad Laboral in Gijón, etc.

He currently combines his work as an architect with teaching at the ETSAV, having given classes in various national and international courses such as the “International Summer Course Architecture in Verona” (Politecnico Milano), 1991, “Taller de Arquitectura Enter Time Madrid” (European University CEES), 2002. “Architecture IV Cycle of Conferences”. Nucleo de Arquitectura da Universidad da Beira Interior, (Portugal), 2008. As well as talks and conferences in Zurich, Verona, Madrid, Oviedo, Burgos, Portugal, Valladolid, Zamora, etc.
