Lehrer Architects
Lehrer Architects is an architectural firm founded by Michael B. Lehrer, FAIA, in his native Silverlake District of Los Angeles in 1985. The firm, now a California corporation, is housed in the award-winning office space at 2140 Hyperion Avenue. Educated at Berkeley and Harvard, Michael is Chairman Emeritus of the Harvard University Graduate School of Design Alumni Council and former President of Homeless Health Care Los Angeles.
The LA-based professional staff has extensive experience in design, management, planning, community work, and cultural organizations on projects throughout Los Angeles and beyond. As such, the firm, its people, and their experiences are deeply rooted in the diverse neighborhoods and their communities. Its work, from the intimate to the monumental, is grounded in the idea that beauty is a rudiment of human dignity. It designs for the community with a reverence for light and space.
In 2020, the American Institute of Architects in Los Angeles awarded the Gold Medal. Lehrer Architects LA has won over 150 major project and sustainability awards, including 50 awards from the national, state, and local chapters of the American Institute of Architects.
He is a past president of AIA LA. He served as vice chair of the School Construction Bond Oversight Committee for over 5 years, overseeing a repair and construction program for LAUSD.
