Conxita Balcells. Conxita Balcells Blesa (Barcelona, 1962), architect and landscape designer, graduated from the Barcelona School of Architecture in 1990, where she has been a professor since 1993, combining her professional career with teaching. She has also participated in national and international conferences and exhibitions.
She has dedicated her professional career to the writing and construction of projects, mostly in the public sphere. Educational spaces (kindergartens, schools, university buildings) and social housing have been the most elaborate projects in her study. Her works seek an approach to the meaning of architecture understood as a heritage asset that enriches our society and dialogues with the place. In addition to having an approach with the health, judicial and other municipal facilities, as well as a whole series of urbanization projects.
Her projects integrate, from the beginning, environmental sustainability criteria, which include the use of sustainable materials and ecological efficiency measures that guarantee minimum impacts and energy consumption, both in the construction process and during its life cycle.
Her work has been recognized by the profession and civil society. This is confirmed by the awards and mentions obtained in the different calls for the FAD Awards, Architecture Biennials, European Awards, etc. Her work has been widely disseminated in specialized publications and exhibited in different cities (Barcelona, Gerona, London, Boston, San Luis...).
