The project shows a very differentiated program in its design, which in turn maintains everything under the same architectural language that allows understanding all the different pieces of the project as a homogeneous component that works together to satisfy all the user's needs.
Description of project by JSV Asociados
3 decisions are made inspired by the location of the site:
1.Raise the main floor at 1.80m using a gentle 30m ramp. This situation allows us to ensure the views towards Gredos above the existing slope and to privatize sports activities and the spa.
2. Design a continuous roof with inclined planes in response to the character of the buildings in Arenas de San Pedro. This solution allows us to give the necessary free height according to the uses of the different premises, swimming pools, changing rooms, spa, offices, etc.
3. Solve the meeting with the ground with inclined cantilevered planes so that the building has a rocky character as well as light. This solution makes it possible to house the entire program of facilities with direct access for vehicles on the ground floor, slightly buried, facilitating maintenance work.
PROGRAM DISTRIBUTION
In the distribution of the program, the accesses, orientations, and ideal views for each area have been taken into account.
The main pool faces south, with an exit towards a large Italian ramp that acts as a solarium with horizontal platforms and views towards the Sierra de Gredos.
The space for the Spa is a space adjacent to the main pool, with a lower height, which is accessed by a “threshold” made in the thickness of the portico of the pillars. It faces west with a large corner window that allows you to enjoy the views of the Sierra de Gredos above the football field.
The ground floor, semi-buried, is dedicated to the facilities. It has access by vehicle ramp on the east facade, creating a patio that gives access to all the necessary premises.
CONSTRUCTION AND STRUCTURE MEMORY
The projected building has a great thermal inertia thanks to the adopted solution of facade walls and concrete cantilevers.
The layout of the semi-buried facilities plant facilitates the execution of the slabs and walls that form the pools in the swimming pools and facilitates the registration and maintenance of all the plumbing, water purification, sanitation, and air conditioning installations.
The structure of the pool space is made with beams and pillars of laminated wood and forged thermochip board that provides continuity between the 2 pool enclosures.
These wooden beams have continuity over the changing rooms, with a lower span and height, so that there is only one ceiling material. All the air conditioning and lighting installations will be visible.
The covers are finished in zinc with a folded continuous plane, which facilitates the evacuation of rain and snow.
PASSIVE ARCHITECTURE AND SUSTAINABILITY
The projected building has a great thermal inertia thanks to the adopted solution of concrete facade walls.
The design of the general volumetry is carried out according to the climatic and sunny conditions, allowing the sun to pass through in winter on the south facade and protecting it with adjustable slats in summer.
These conditions of "passive architecture" of the project are surely the most important to support the sustainable maintenance of the architecture and minimize the carbon footprint of the project.
