Olafur Eliasson (Copenhagen, 1967) is a visual artist whose shows have been critically acclaimed and displayed in museums in the world since 1997. His work is characterized by the relentless exploration of modes of perception, and his work, which he describes as "experimental facilities", ranging from photography, installations, sculpture and film, to major projects in public space and in architectural works. In 1995 the artist founded the Studio in Berlin Olafur Eliasson, which currently has a team of about 50 people between craftsmen, architects and art historians. as a teacher of the Universität der Künste Berlin, Olafur Eliasson has launched the Institut für Raumexperimente (Institute for Space Experiments), a innovative model of arts education in operation since 2009.
"Leer es respirar, es devenir", is the first book that contains the texts of Olafur Eliasson written to date. Through 24 short essays and evocative images of some of his works, the Danish artist of Icelandic origin presents the most recurrent themes of his career and invites us to reflect on their aesthetic and perceptual complex universe: from the role we play as observers in a museum or our reactions to color and light, to the different types of movement or the perception of the landscape over time.
Like his art, in this book -prefaced by Eliasson-, the artist himself encourages us to be part of his reflections open to tour the various issues raised and, above all, to take sides as readers and let us go beyond the work itself.
